Re-Score!

We are happy to announce that the Sandown Park track has been reassessed and scored much higher. Our initial visit was in torrential rain and therefore was hard to judge. We have since revisited and had a whale of a time, the track might not look like much but it's fast and rewarding, one of our current favourites.

Sandown Park (Daytona) 900m track - Esher, Surrey

Sandown park may be well known for horse power of a different type, but this corker of a track deserves it’s own recognition! The layout we have concentrated on here is the international (longest) track, which is a good mixture of flat out straights and tight hairpins that require commitment and bravery in equal measures. For a good lap here the driver will need to carry as much speed as possible into the long straights and nail the tricky turn 7

Found this great video of Sandown, many thanks to Cadogon at YouTube for this.

Back

Turn 1

A wicked set of turns, the first of which you approach from flat out. Best treated as two corners although essentially it’s a long hairpin. From flat out position the kart to the middle of the track (massive overtaking opportunity here so be careful of any late divers up the inside) brake gently and hold as much speed as you dare on the way in.

Turn 2

Allow the kart to drift to the left slightly to set you up for turn 3 which you should be able to take flat out now as you will have set the kart up nicely in turn 2.

Turn 3

The first of the tight hairpins, you will be on the left hand side of the track on the way in and the best line will have you aiming to clip the middle of the apex.

Turn 4

This ones a tricky one and a good overtaker. Your instincts will tell you to turn in early, but whoa nelly, doing this will royally screw your exit speed, so go wide and look to apex very late (going from left to right) you need the kart as straight as possible for maximum speed up the next straight.

Turn 5

Flat out on the way in and again resist the temptation to turn in to early, the exit to this corner is uphill and blind so you will need all your jedi skills about you for this one. A very rewarding corner to get right and essential for a good lap.

Turn 6

If you have hit turn 6 correctly you should be nicely to the left of the track and ready to turn in. as this is an uphill corner little braking is required and the throttle can be applied nice an early. Keep the kart to the left after you have exited the turn.

Turn 7

Brake late and miss the first apex, this will allow you to straighten the kart up properly for turn 9. a classic slow in fast out turn.

Turn 8

Another innocuous little turn that could send your lap times tumbling if taken right. Keep to your right on the way in and only use gentle braking, your aim is to be on the left hand side when you exit the turn. Lets go round again!!

Turn 9

Just after the pit lane is one of the key corners to a good lap. You need to get your braking over with nice and early in a straight line as far to the left of the track as you can manage. The key here is to get on the gas as soon as you can, you need maximum revs on the long straight ahead. Roll the kart into the hairpin trying to kiss the apex just after halfway round. The throttle should be applied in a controlled manner from here and you are looking to use all of the track on the exit for maximum speed.
