Rye House 1000m track - Hertfordshire

A very popular track in a good location, even though it is in a bit of a rabbit warren. Rye House is a nice 'open' track with plenty of visibility and high speed cornering. I'd consider this as a semi professional track running plenty of open races but also play host to a fair few championship races and a great place to meet expereienced karters.

Turn 1

Turn 1 is huge, It goes on for an eternity. In fact, you could run out of fuel just trying to get round it. So as you might have guessed standard apexing doesn't really get a look in here. Instead, try to keep at full throttle to about 2/3rds of the corner and gently drift towards the outside of the track. Then start tightening in and clip a really late apex, the line you take should be a bit like a snail shell (hopefully your speed won't match). Exit the corner quite tight on the right with your foot welded to the floor.

Turn 2

Don't lift off here, just let your left hand tyres run over the red and whites and head straight out to the outside of the track again.

Turn 3

One of the hardest corners on the track. Brake later than you think you should and quite hard, but not so much that you lock up or spin out. Braking in a straight line here should help. Take a normal apex and try to keep your revs up the whole way round.

Turn 4

Another quite tight corner, stay wide and brake quite hard in a straight line then straight back on the throttle for a middle to late apex, you can even get away with not clipping the apex at all here.

Turns 5 and 6

Turn 5 is pretty sharp and bumpy, brake in a line heading towards the apex, lift off and stay to the left. Take turn 6 at medium pace and full throttle at the apex

Turns 7 and 8

You can almost straight line turn 7, just make sure that can get back to the left of the track on exit and give full sliding welly around turn 8 onto the main straight.
